Dressed in suit, men steal bride's purse with jewellery from wedding in Chandigarh's 5 star hotel

The incident took place at around 12:25 AM during the pheras ritual of the wedding of Achla Sethi, sister of Mohali resident Dr. Nikhil Sethi.

In a bizarre development, a bride's purse containing jewellery was stolen during a wedding ceremony at JW Marriott Hotel in Chandigarh. JW Marriott in Chandigarh is said to be a 5-star hotel.

As per reports, the incident occurred at 12:25 a.m. on November 8, 2025, at the Sector 35 hotel. The incident took place during the pheras ritual of the wedding of Achla Sethi, sister of Mohali resident Dr. Nikhil Sethi.

Achla Sethi's marriage ceremony was being held at the mandap, set up in the outdoor lawn area near the hotel’s GBR Hall.

As per reports, the stolen bag contained a gold necklace weighing approximately 9 tolas, two gold earrings, two gold bracelets weighing 35 grams each, and a ring. Following the incident, panic gripped the scene, and the police were informed.

Dr. Nikhil Sethi has alleged that the theft occurred due to negligence on the part of the hotel's security staff and a flaw in the security system.

Dr. Sethi has demanded that an must be taken against the hotel management apart from arresting the thieves.

Upon receiving information, a police team arrived at the scene and began an investigation. CCTV footage showed a man in a suit walking around. He disappeared from the scene while talking on a mobile phone with his companion.

It is suspected that the crime was committed by two men who were seen in the CCTV exiting from the gate. The police have registered a case against unknown individuals.

Police officials also suggest that a similar incident occurred in Amritsar a few days back.

For the unversed, a few days back, 2 mean wore formal suits and entered into a wedding ceremony in Amritsar. As per reports, the two 'well-dressed' men entered the wedding and fled with a bag containing cash given as shagun and gold ornaments.

The incident reportedly took place at Maribella Marriage Palace, located on the Amritsar–Vallah Bypass, on Wednesday evening. After the bag went missing, the Wedding Palace owners reviewed the CCTV footage of the wedding ceremony and saw a man running away with the bag, while another suspect was also captured on camera. Police have registered a case and seized the CCTV footage and launched an investigation.
