A 31-year-old property dealer was shot dead in Sector 9, one of the city’s most high-security areas, in Chandigarh today. As per reports, the victim, identified as Charanpreet Singh, a resident of Kubbaheri village in Mullanpur, had just exited a gym and was stepping into his Scorpio SUV when two assailants arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire at him as shot at least 12 rounds at close range.
After being hit, Singh collapsed in the driver’s seat and his associates immediately rushed him to PGI (Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research), however, due to excessive blood loss, he succumbed to his injuries before he could reach the hospital. Reports indicate that he sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the abdomen, chest and arm.
Following the incident, police teams reached the spot soon after the incident and recovered 12 empty shell casings from the scene, while a forensic team is examining the area to gather further evidence. Sources also revealed that the victim had reportedly received threats in the past.
Currently, the police have launched an investigation and are probing all possible angles to identify and nab the attackers.
