A complaint was filed by Arvind Sharma, Co-Convenor of the BJP Punjab Trade Cell against Punjabi singer Prem Dhillon over his recently released song 'Putt Jam Te Lau'. He urged Punjab Police to initiate an inquiry into the song and examine whether it violates existing laws related to public order and the promotion of criminal behavior. The complaint alleges that the song promotes gangsterism, gun culture, violence and revenge, and demands its removal from YouTube and other digital platforms.
Allegations against the song
In his complaint, Arvind Sharma alleged that the song's lyrics and music video feature armed individuals carrying weapons while talking about aggression, intimidation and revenge. According to him, the overall presentation creates an impression that violence and unlawful use of weapons are symbols of power and respect that could negatively influence young audiences.
He further stated that Punjab has already suffered because of gangsterism, organized crime, drug abuse and illegal weapons. At a time when law enforcement agencies are working to curb gang-related activities, such content could undermine their efforts by normalising criminal lifestyles through entertainment.
Raised concern over youth
The complaint also highlights the growing influence of music and social media on young people. Sharma argued that popular artists have a significant impact on society. To this he added that portraying guns, gangs and revenge in a positive way may encourage youth to imitate such behavior.
Referring to previous observations made by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Sharma said the court has repeatedly expressed concern over songs that glorify gun culture and violence. He also claimed to have enclosed copies of the relevant court observations with his complaint, stating that they emphasize the need for authorities to closely examine such content and take appropriate action wherever required.
Demands made to Punjab Police
Among the key demands, Sharma has sought an immediate inquiry into the song by the Cyber Crime Wing and other official authorities. He has requested legal action against the singer, lyricist, director, producer and all others associated with the project if any legal violations are found. In addition to this the complaint also demands authorities to examine the role of the production house and digital distributors. It also seeks a recommendation for YouTube and other online platforms to remove or restrict the song if it is found to promote gangsterism, violence, revenge or illegal weapon culture. As of now, Prem Dhillon has not publicly responded to the allegations or the complaint filed against his song.
