Punjabi singer Ranjit Bawa responded to fans requesting his song ‘Sarkarain’ during a live performance at a Dussehra fair in Khanna, Ludhiana district. Addressing the audience, Bawa said he was not afraid of anyone and clarified that he was not a supporter of any government.
The singer also spoke about the legal difficulties he faced following the song, expressing frustration over having to deal with the consequences while those requesting it could simply return home after the performance.
‘I Am Not a Government Supporter’
Responding to questions about whether he was afraid of the government, Bawa reportedly said that certain matters had to be handled within the boundaries of the law.
He also stated that he did not accept grants from any government and earned his living through his own work.
The singer’s remarks came after audience members reportedly requested that he perform ‘Sarkarain’, a song that led to legal trouble for him.
Recalls Legal Trouble Over the Song
Speaking about his experience, Bawa said he was picked up from his home at around 7:30 am and that he continued to attend court hearings in connection with the case.
He also recalled speaking about drug abuse in Punjab in 2016, saying that he had faced the consequences without receiving the support he expected from others.
Expressing his frustration, the singer reportedly questioned why people asked him to perform the song without considering the difficulties he had faced following its release.
Urges People to Act Against Drug Abuse
Bawa also challenged the audience to do more than simply request songs about drug abuse. He urged people to pay attention to what was happening in their own towns and villages and take action against those involved in selling drugs.
He reportedly told fans that they could return home after the show, while he had to continue dealing with the consequences of his actions and the ongoing legal proceedings.
His remarks highlighted his frustration over the gap between public demands for artists to speak on social issues and the support they receive when they face legal challenges.
The singer’s comments have brought renewed attention to his position on government independence, his experience with the legal process and the issue of drug abuse in Punjab.
