Babbu Maan: Why Should Punjabis Always Be the Ones to Face Baton Charges?
Renowned Punjabi singer Babbu Maan said that from the Partition of 1947 to 1984 and the recent farmers' protest, Punjabis have always stood at the forefront of every struggle, suffering immense losses.
He questioned whether CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke had supported the farmers during the 2020–21 protest. If he did not stand with Punjabis then, Babbu Maan asked, why should Punjabis now support his movement without question?
He added that Punjabis have their own lives and cannot always be expected to bear the brunt of protests. For that reason, he and many others in Punjab are not supporting the current agitation.
Jasbir Jassi: Students Should Be Treated With Love and Respect
Singer Jasbir Jassi, famous for Dil Le Gayi Kudi Gujarat Di, wrote on social media that students are like our own children and deserve to be treated with love, respect, and understanding.
He urged authorities to listen seriously to their concerns and insisted that the issue should not be politicized. According to Jassi, student-related matters should be handled with sensitivity rather than through a political lens.
He tagged several political leaders and institutions in his post, including the BJP, Aam Aadmi Party, Congress, actor-politician Vijay, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Aaj Tak, Rashtrapati Bhavan, and the Ministry of Education.
Sonu Sood Questions the Baton Charge
Bollywood actor Sonu Sood, who hails from Moga, Punjab, said that protesting students need compassionate arms to embrace them, not police batons. He appealed to the government and administration to resolve the students' issues through empathy and dialogue instead of aggression.
Diljit Dosanjh: Students Should Have Been Heard
Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh condemned the incident, saying:
"What happened today was very unfortunate. Students should not have been treated this way. I request the authorities to listen to their demands. The voice of the people is the voice of God."
He also acknowledged that he would likely face criticism again for speaking out. "I've already been labelled anti-national many times. I'll probably be called anti-national again. After supporting the farmers' protest, I faced several legal issues that I still cannot discuss.". Diljit reiterated that the students' concerns should be heard and addressed through dialogue rather than force.
Punjabi Entertainment Industry Split Over CJP Protest
The CJP protest has divided the Punjabi film and music industry.
While Diljit Dosanjh and Sonu Sood questioned the police action and supported the students' right to be heard, Babbu Maan declined to support the protest, arguing that Punjabis cannot always be expected to lead every movement.
Meanwhile, Jasbir Jassi called for sensitivity and urged political parties not to politicize the issue, while Sonam Bajwa expressed her emotions through a cryptic Instagram Story featuring a broken-heart emoji.
