An advocate has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking Z+ category security for the family of slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, particularly his minor younger brother, citing concerns over their safety.
In a representation dated October 21, 2026, Advocate Vasu Ranjan also requested a personal appointment with the Union Home Minister to discuss his apprehensions and called for an urgent threat assessment by the concerned security agencies.
The claims and security concerns mentioned in the letter have not been independently verified.
Advocate Cites Concerns Following Viral Video
In his representation, Ranjan stated that he had recently seen a video reportedly showing Sidhu Moosewala’s younger brother appearing on stage in Canada. He said the child’s gestures and expressions reminded him of the late singer.
The advocate expressed apprehension that the family’s continued public recognition could potentially attract unwanted attention from gangsters or other criminal elements. However, the letter does not establish that a specific threat has been made against the child or his family.
Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead on May 29, 2022, in Punjab. His killing had triggered widespread outrage and renewed public attention on gang-related violence in the state.
Request for Z+ Security Cover
The letter urges the Union Home Ministry to consider Z+ category security for the singer’s father, Balkaur Singh, his mother, Charan Kaur, and their minor son.
The requested measures include armed security personnel, close-protection arrangements, security coordination during visits outside Punjab and abroad, and other preventive measures, subject to an assessment by the competent security agencies.
Ranjan has also urged the authorities to direct the Intelligence Bureau and other concerned agencies to assess the family’s security situation and determine whether additional protection is necessary.
Personal Meeting Sought with Union Home Minister
Apart from seeking enhanced security for the family, the advocate requested an appointment with the Union Home Minister at the earliest to personally present his concerns.
The representation was also marked to the Director of the Intelligence Bureau under the Ministry of Home Affairs for consideration.
Security Request Awaits Official Confirmation
The letter raises concerns about the safety of Sidhu Moosewala’s family, particularly his younger brother, but it remains unclear whether the representation has been formally acted upon or whether any fresh threat assessment has been initiated.
Any decision regarding security cover would depend on the findings and recommendations of the competent authorities.
The authenticity of the letter, the status of the request and any official response from the Union Home Ministry or security agencies should be confirmed before publication.
