Bank holidays in September 2025: State-wise complete list of days when the banks will remain closed

September 2025, is offering a mix of national holidays, state-specific celebrations, along with regular weekend offs.

As September 2025 nears, everyone has already started making plans for festival celebrations, and travels. For those with banking tasks lined up, whether cash withdrawal, a visit to the branch for paperwork, or dealing with loan-related procedures, monitoring bank holidays in advance is necessary. 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued its holiday list for September 2025, blending a list of national festivals, state-level festivities, and typical weekend offs.

It's noteworthy that though banks across India will remain shut on festival days and Sundays, online and mobile banking services will be available uninterruptedly.

Here's a list of the dates when banks in September will remain closed

  • September 5 (Monday): Id-e-Milad (Milad-un-Nabi)– Bank holiday in Kerala, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra states.

  • September 7 (Sunday): Weekly holiday, Indra Jatra will be observed in Sikkim. 

  • September 14 (Sunday): Weekly holiday

  • September 21 (Sunday): Weekly holiday

  • September 27 (Saturday): Fourth Saturday

  • September 28 (Sunday): Weekly holiday

  • September 30 (Tuesday):Banks in the state of Andhra, Jharkhand and West Bengal shall remain closed on the festive occasion of Maha Ashtami. 

Since most of these festivals fall on weekends, some states can experience consecutive blocks of two or three days during which banks remain closed. Customers are therefore asked to arrange for tasks like cheque clearance, branch visits, or important financial formalities in advance.
