Banks to be shut for 21 days in October; Check state-wise holiday list

Banks in October shall be closed for four Sundays of 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th October 2025.

Indian banks will be closed on 21 days in October 2025, four Sundays and second and fourth Saturdays, as the RBI calendar revealed. Banking services this month will be curtailed by 15 state holidays along with four traditional Sundays and second and fourth Saturdays. Thus, those planning to go to banks for vital work should observe these dates and not make travel plans during holidays.

Major October bank holidays

  • Four Sundays of 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th October 2025 will be closed for banks.

  • The second Saturday (11th October) and the fourth Saturday (25th October) will also be non-working days across the whole country.

  • Besides all these, banks will remain shut for 15 days in various regions on grand festivals and state-centric celebrations like Mahashtami, Gandhi Jayanti, Durga Puja, Laxmi Puja, Karva Chauth, Deepawali, Chhath Puja, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti.

State-wise impact

The dates of closure differ from state to state based on regional festivals and celebrations:

  • Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Jharkhand, Sikkim, Tripura, West Bengal, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, and several other states will celebrate on different dates in October.

Online banking continues to be available

Even though the bank branches will be physically closed on holidays, the digital banking platforms such as UPI, IMPS, NEFT, RTGS, and ATM services will be in full operation[2]. Money transfer and other banking transactions can be carried out smoothly through online banking even on bank holidays.
