The early counting trends in the elections for the 2026 Assembly indicate a lot of political activity in various states although it cannot be said that the trends have been fully established as yet.
In Tamil Nadu the party of actor-turned-politician Vijay Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has exceeded the majority mark showing an impressive performance in their maiden attempt in the state which indicates a big turn-around in the political scenario in Tamil Nadu where Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam have always ruled.
In Kerala a senior BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar seems to be leading in the constituency of Nemom but overall trends indicate the BJP continuing to be in the third place in the state whereas The United Democratic Front (UDF) consisting of the Congress seems to be ahead of others.
As per the latest data released by the Election Commission of India counting is underway with trends emerging in most constituencies:
Assam
The Bharatiya Janata Party holds the lead with 79 seats while the Indian National Congress is second with 24 seats, the Bodoland Peoples' Front and the Asom Gana Parishad have an equal number of seats, which is 10, while the All India United Democratic Front is leading in 2 seats.
Kerala
The Indian National Congress has 56 seats, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has 30 seats, the Indian Union Muslim League leads with 23 seats, the Communist Party of India leads with 11 seats, and the Kerala Congress (E) has 7 seats.
Puducherry
The All India N.R. Congress is leading in 9 seats and independents are ahead in 3 which is being followed by the Bharatiya Janata Party with 2 seats while the Indian National Congress and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam are leading in 1 seat each.
Tamil Nadu
Debutant party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has taken a strong lead with 107 seats while the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam follows at 64, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam is ahead in 41 seats and Pattali Makkal Katchi leads in 6 and the Indian National Congress in 5.
West Bengal
The Bharatiya Janata Party is leading in 152 seats significantly ahead of the All India Trinamool Congress at 81 while pther parties including Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha, All Jharkhand United Party and Communist Party of India (Marxist) are leading in 1 seat each.
Counting is still in progress and these numbers may change as more rounds are completed.
