Heatwave alert: Summer coming sooner & hotter than usual this year

IMD is expecting severe heatwaves in the country staring March this year which is much sooner than the previous years leading up to May

India is all set to witness one of the harshest summers of all time this year. As per reports, Delhi’s temperatures crossed 32 degrees in the month of February, making it the warmest February in the past three years.

The Meteorological Department is expecting severe heatwaves in the country staring March this year which is much sooner than the previous years leading up to May. As per the predictions, this year the temperatures are expected to cross 45 degrees in the Northern India which will have an impact on a number of things.

Electric grids preparing for more load

During the peak demand of electricity, the electric grids are expected to take the toll and anticipating the highest ever demand of 260 GW in May. The temperatures at the night time are also expected to be higher than usual which would put more load on the grids as prolonged AC use is projected.

El Niño and its impact on India

As per a report by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), fresh concerns have been raised about the possibility of an El Niño developing later this year, which could potentially affect India’s monsoon.
