Shibu Soren Dead: All about the 'miracle' that earned former Jharkhand CM the title of 'Dishom Guruji'

Shibu Soren's death was confirmed by his son Hemant Soren who is also the current CM of Jharkhand.

The political fraternity of Jharkhand went into mourning after the state's Chief Minister Shibu Soren passed away at the age of 81. Shibu Soren aka Dishom Guruji breathed his last at Sir Gangaram Hospital in Delhi.

Shibu Soren's death was confirmed by his son Hemant Soren who is also the current CM of Jharkhand. Following that condolence messages started to pour on social media.

What happened to Shibu Soren?

He was admitted at Delhi's Sir Gangaram Hospital for the past few days. A team of specialist doctors from neurology, cardiology and nephrology were treating him.

His condition remained critical. He had a brain stroke. Shibu Soren's death reason- This caused paralysis on the left side of his body.

81-year-old, Shibu Soren was suffering from kidney disease for a long time. He was on dialysis for a year. He also had diabetes. The former CM had also undergone heart bypass surgery.

Shibu Soren's political career

He was the coal minister during the UPA tenure. Not only this, but Soren was also the founding patron of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). He had been the coal minister during the first tenure of the UPA. However, he resigned from the Union Cabinet after his name surfaced in the Chirudih massacre case.

However. Soren was acquitted in the Chirrudih massacre of 1975 due to lack of evidence.

Who was Shibu Soren?

Shibu Soren was born on 11 January 1944 in Nemra of Gola block of present Ramgarh district. He was just 13 years old when his father was murdered by moneylenders. After this, Shibu Soren left his studies and decided to fight against moneylenders.

How did Soren become Dishom Guruji?

After his father's murder, he felt that it was more important to unite the tribal society against moneylenders than studies. He started working against the usurious moneylenders.

In 1970, he openly came out against the moneylenders and started the paddy harvesting movement. Shibu Soren came into the limelight by running a movement against moneylenders, but made the moneylenders his enemy.

To remove Shibu from the way, the moneylenders hired people. In those days, Shibu Soren used to go from village to village on bike to make the tribals aware. During this time, once he was surrounded by the goons of the moneylenders. It was the rainy season. The Barakar river was in spate. Shibu Soren understood that now it was difficult to survive.

Without thinking twice, he increased his speed and jumped into the river along with the bike. Everyone thought that his death was certain, but after a while Shibu swam to the other side of the river.

People considered it a divine miracle. The tribals started calling Shibu 'Dishom Guru'. In Santhali, Dishom Guru means Guru of the country.
