Yash Yadav, a student among the 13 people in charge of the May 2026 NEET paper leak was given a nod by the court on Tuesday, June 16 to give the exam to be conducted on June 21,2026 under judicial custody. According to media, Mr.Yadav asked for a 15 day interim bail for attending the exam and his sister’s wedding.
A few days ago, the court denied Mr. Yadav’s plea for the interim bail calling it “premature” and also seeked the approval of NTA(National testing agency) despite being the key accused in the case. While NTA did not raise any objections against Yash, he has now been handed the admit card and is allowed to give the exam under judicial custody and administrative watch. Yash can also attend his sister’s wedding under custody. Yadav’s lawyer also argued for letting him keep the study material and books in jail for preparing for the exam and was successful in doing so.
"It is observed that while the applicant does face grave allegations of wrongful dissemination and trading of the confidential questions of the very examination in which he now seeks to appear, his rights as a student cannot be defeated by turning bail into punishment by denial of the opportunity to appear in the examination," says Judge Vishal Gogne. According to a report by Hindustan Times the court said “Education is a fundamental right”, so the accused will be taken to Gurugram, Haryana for the re exam from Tihar Jail.
Ahead of the case, Telegram has now been temporarily banned until June 22, to avoid cheating and misinformation for the re examination of NEET UG on June 21,2026. The message editing feature of the app is also discontinued temporarily as administrators would insert the actual question paper into an old message and circulate screenshots claiming prior availability. The restriction closes this avenue for the post-examination period. “India’s IT ministry banned Telegram for one week because some users shared leaked exam questions. This punishes 150M+ ordinary Telegram users in India — not the insiders who leaked the exam materials. And the ban hasn't stopped anything, the leaks just moved to other apps." said Telegram CEO Pavel Durov.
