You may not be able to order food online on New Year's Eve- December 31; know why

The reason being a planned nationwide strike called by delivery workers of online food platforms like Swigy, Zomato, Blinkit, Zepto, etc.

The countdown for New Year i.e. January 1 has begun and people are all set with their plans. While many are mulling to head to their nearby party events, some may have also planned to stay at home with their family and order food to enjoy at home.

If you come in the second category of people i.e. order food online at home and enjoy with your family, then you may have to think again.

The reason being a planned nationwide strike called by delivery workers of online food platforms like Swigy, Zomato, Blinkit, Zepto, etc.

A nationwide protest of delivery workers have been called on December 31 i.e. New Year's Eve.

As per NDTV report, Indian Federation of App-Based Transport Workers has called for a strike on New Year's Eve over multiple demands. Notably, online food delivery platforms like Zomato, Swigy, etc, witness surge in order on Christmas, New Year's Eve and New Year.

Hence, online food delivery workers protest may hamper not only the companies but also people who generally order food online.

According to reports, the workers have various demands like- End to arbitrary ID blocking and penalties without due process, Improved safety measures, including safety gear, Assured and consistent work allocation without algorithmic discrimination.

Respect and dignity at work, including humane treatment by platforms and customers, Mandatory rest breaks and reasonable working hours, Stronger app and technical support, including grievance redressal for routing and payment failures.

Job security and social security, including health insurance, accident coverage, and pension benefits.

The online delivery workers have also requested the Central as well as State Government to intervene into the matter and regulate online delivery platforms.

TOI reported that neither Swigy, nor Zomato have commented on the upcoming planned protests by delivery workers.
