AAP to reveal first list of Punjab poll candidates soon; will all sitting MLAs get another chance?

The initial discussions are likely to focus on candidates who have won elections twice, and most of these leaders may be considered for a third consecutive term

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has started preparations for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, with the party likely to announce its first list of candidates in the first week of November. The party's top leadership from Delhi and Punjab is expected to meet over the weekend to discuss and finalise the initial list.

According to party sources, the meeting will be chaired by AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also expected to attend.

The initial discussions are likely to focus on candidates who have won Assembly elections twice. Most of these leaders may be considered for a third consecutive term, according to sources. However, the final list of candidates has not yet been announced.

AAP currently has 94 MLAs in Punjab's 117-member Assembly.

AAP plans early candidate announcement

According to party sources, AAP wants to announce its candidates well before the elections to give them sufficient time to connect with voters and strengthen their presence in their constituencies.

The preparations come as the Election Commission of India reviews poll arrangements in Punjab. The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has also concluded, according to the information provided.

The proposed early announcement is part of the party's organisational preparations ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled for 2027. The official election schedule is yet to be announced.

Women voters to be focus of campaign from November 1

Alongside candidate selection, AAP is preparing to launch a campaign to reach women voters from November 1.

Women volunteers, known as Sakhis, who have been engaged to help women fill out forms for the Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana, will also be asked to reach out to women voters and mobilise support for the party.

The campaign is expected to use the existing network of volunteers involved in helping women with the scheme's application process.

Six sector in-charges appointed in every constituency

AAP has also appointed six sector in-charges in each Assembly constituency to collect feedback from voters about the implementation of government schemes and the party's performance.

These in-charges are gathering feedback daily and sharing it with the concerned AAP MLA or halka in-charge, as well as the party's senior leadership.

The feedback is intended to give the leadership information about how government schemes are being implemented and how voters view the party's work.

New halka in-charges appointed in several constituencies

The party has also been appointing new halka in-charges in several constituencies. These leaders have been given responsibilities alongside sitting MLAs.

According to the information provided, the appointments have been made in constituencies where the party leadership is reviewing the performance of sitting legislators or looking to strengthen its organisational presence.

With candidate selection, voter outreach and internal feedback collection underway, AAP is preparing its organisational structure ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
