The legendary South Indian actor Rajnikanth will be receivingthe Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2019. One of the highest honour of the filmfraternity in India as mentioned by Union Minister Prakash Javedkar in histweet. While tweeting the minister for information and broadcasting heannounced the good news, “happy to announce Dadasaheb Phalke award for 2019 toone of the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema Rajnikanth Ji. His contributionas an actor, producer and screenwriter has been iconic”.
The ceremony for the Dadasaheb Phalke awards 2019 wassupposed to be announced last year but due to COVID restrictions, it waspostponed. Also, the national film awards for 2019 were postponed because of that.
Jury members to select the famous south Indian actor forthe award were Asha Bhonsle, ShankarMahadevan, actor Mohanlal and Biswajeet and filmmaker Subash Ghai.
The actor who turned 70 is India’s most iconic publicfigure among the whole cinema. People from the south part of the country actuallyworship Rajnikanth, he is believed to influence public life so much. Rajnikanthmade his debut in the Tamil film Apoorva Ragnal in 1975 and ever since then hehas given back-to-back hits. From the long list of his hit films here are afew: Billu, Muthu, Baashha, Sivaji and enthrain. Apart from working in Tamilfilms, he has also made a mark in Bollywood with hits such as Hum and Chaalbaaz. In2018, he appeared on Kaala and 2.0, in 2019 he did Petta and in 2020 his latestmovie Darbar was released. Without making a further delay his has set his footfor his new project that will be Annatthe.
Rajnikanth who is already on hights in the cinema world hasentered politics as well. Last year he was about to launch his own party butdue to health issues, the plan has been delayed. He was hospitalized due toblood pressure fluctuations and as soon he discharged he conveyed a message tohis fans saying, “with extreme sadness I say that I can’t enter politics. I aloneknow the pain I went through while announcing this decision. Without enteringelectoral politics I will serve the people. This decision will disappoint myfans but please forgive me”.
