Today marks an important day for the farmers who are protestingagainst the three farm laws. The 8th round of talks between thecentral government and the farmer leaders is on. Two minutes silence wasobserved in respect for the farmers who died during the farmer protests.
From the central government, Narendra Singh Tomar, PiyushGoyal, and Som Prakash were present.
The central government arranged meal for the farmers, whochose to disregard the courtesy and instead ate their langar, which they thensent for the central government ministers. The farmer leaders also indicatedtheir faith in a humane handling by the government.
It is pertinent to note that to show support to the farmerprotests, property of Reliance including mobile towers and power generatorswere vandalized, allegedly by farmers. To these unwarranted acts of violence, Reliancecompany has sought help from the Punjab and Haryana High Court while clarifyingtheir zero ambitions to buy land from any farmer or engage in corporate or contractfarming.
However, the farmers were able to get their two demands fromthe last meeting of December 30 agreed to. The first of these is full freedomto burn paddy stubble at will with no answerability. Consequently, thedeterrent provisions of Rs one crore fine and five years of imprisonment will bedone away with. The second thing the farmers got from the central government isthe cancellation of any change in Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2020 for thefear of having to pay electricity bills.
The farmers intend to get the government to repeal the threelaws and have laws on minimum support price as per their liking.
