Adani’s dream to be ‘Airport King’ progresses unimpeded as Kerala state loses

High court dismisses a plea by Kerala government challenging Adani’s lease of the airport

Thiruvananthapuram airport’s management lease was won byAdani Enterprises. The Kerala government had challenged the same in the state’sHigh Court in August.

Adani Enterprises won the bid for the airport’s lease andmaintenance under PPP (Public-Private Partnership) with a margin of Rs 16 perpassenger. With this, the company beat Kerala State Industrial DevelopmentCorporation and GMR Group.

The plea was filed after an all-party meeting demanding thecentral government’s decision of the same.

The claim was that the central government’s decision is notin the public’s interest, and that the state had right of preferentialtreatment over a private entity.

The time period of the lease is 50 years and the Adani Grouphas won six such facilities.

The Airports Authority of India invited bids for PPP modelof operation based on fees per domestic passengers.

While the political groups of the state had challenged theAdani Enterprises, Shashi Tharoor has backed the central government on its PPPplan.
