After protest by int’l students, Australia govt plans to reopen borders soon

Students blamed the Morrison government for forgery and cheating on students by accepting fees and still not allowing temporary immigrants to enter the country.

The Australian government is planning to reopen theborders for temporary visa holders soon. The international students andtemporary visa holders have been protesting that despite paying lakhs ofrupees, the government is not allowing them to enter Australia. The ScottMorrison government had sealed its borders for temporary immigrants owing tocovid19 last year.

The country’s Immigration Minister Alex Hawke said thatthe government is planning to let temporary migrants, including internationalstudents and visitors, enter the country.

“We’ve learned one thing out of Covid and that is weabsolutely miss the visitors to our economy and temporary visa holders. We wantthem back as soon as possible,” said Hawke. Backing up the Australiangovernment, Hawke stated that the government is rolling out vaccinationprograms and working on a plan to open the borders for temporary immigrants andtourists. He urged that the Morrison government wants all the temporary visaholders and tourists back, as soon as possible.

The immigration minister said, “That’s why the governmentis rolling out vaccination program and preparing for the opening of ourinternational borders, so we can have important visits from tourists that spendso much money in our country and also the international student sector, one ofour largest export sectors, that supports Australian economy, therefore we wantto get them back.”

Australia needs to get its international education sectorback on track. The New South Wales Treasurer Dominic Perrottet justified saidthat due to border closer students are suffering and so are the livelihoods ofmany people in NSW who depend on international education.

Meanwhile, Australian international students are eager toreturn to Australia for a better learning experience. Students are alsodispleased due to the seized border and have been campaigning against the behaviorof the Australian government. They are demanding a clear timeline over theirreturn to Australia. Remote students are complaining about the poor quality ofonline learning.

Indian students having temporary visa of Australia alsostaged a protest against the Australian government at the Jantar Mantar in NewDelhi. They blamed the Morrison government for forgery and cheating on studentsby accepting fees and still not allowing temporary immigrants to enter thecountry.
