'No ardass, no burial in graveyard..': Tarn Taran village passes resolutions against Christians

A communal controversy is in the making after a video surfaced on social media from a village in Tarn Taran, Punjab. The video is said to be from the village of Sanghar Kot in Tarn Taran district. The video shows the village panchayat, congregation, and various committees announcing resolutions imposing restrictions on the Christian community.

As per the resolutions passed by the villagers of Sanghar Kot- 

1. Saroops of Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji cannot be taken to the homes of members of the Christian community.
2. Granthi Singh will not visit Christian households to perform prayers or rituals.
3. In the event of a death in a Christian household, the deceased can be cremated but cannot be buried in the graveyard.
4. The Christian community cannot place advertisements outside someone else’s home without their consent; however, they can place them outside their own homes.
5. The Christian community is prohibited from organizing any processions (Sobha Yatra) in the village.

The resolutions passed by the panchayat have triggered a wave of criticism on social media. Many have labeled the decisions as discriminatory and against communal harmony, while others argue it is an internal village matter and should not be blown out of proportion.

A news daily quoted DC Rahul who informed that the administration is keeping a close eye on the developments. Since there were festivals for both communities, the administration tried hard to keep the peace within the region. DC further said that the administration will try to make both parties understand. 

The Christian community has expressed strong objections to the resolutions, calling them unconstitutional. This has raised concerns about escalating tensions between the two groups in the village.
