Are you above 60 or over 45 with co-morbidities? Govt to offer free Covid-19 vaccine

Prakash Javadekar, the union minister said that the vaccine will be provided free of cost at government centers.

People who are above 60 years of age or those who aremore than 45 years old with co-morbidities will be vaccinated against Covid-19in 10,000 government and 20,000 private vaccination centers. They will bevaccinated from March 1, the union government announced on Feb 24.

Prakash Javadekar, the union minister said that thevaccine will be provided free of cost at government centers.

The proposal regarding the vaccination drive in nextphase has been approved at a meeting of union cabinet. It was chaired by PrimeMinister Narendra Modi.

At the media briefing, the union minister said, "Whilethe vaccine will be given for free at government centres, it will be availablefor a charge, to be decided later, at many private hospitals."

India has been containing the country’s Active Caseloadunder 1.50 lakh. The active cases are 1,46,907 today. The present activecaseload now consists of 1.33% of India’s total Positive Cases.

13,742 new daily cases havebeen recorded in the last 24 hours whereas 14,037 recoveries registeredin the last 24 hours. It has led to a net decline of 399 cases inthe total active caseload.

In last one week, 12 states have reported more than 100average daily new cases. These are Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka,Punjab, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Telangana, Delhiand Haryana. Two States, Kerala and Maharashtra both report more than 4,000average daily new cases in past one week.

Meanwhile, The Centre has deputed high levelmulti-disciplinary teams to Maharashtra, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh,Gujarat, Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Union Territory ofJammu and Kashmir for supporting them in public health measures for targetedCOVID response and management, and effectively tackling the pandemic.

The three –member multidisciplinary teams are headed byJoint Secretary level officers in the Health Ministry. These teams will workclosely with the States/UT administration and ascertain reasons for recentsurge in the number of COVID19 cases.

They will also coordinate with health authorities of theStates/UT for requisite COVID19 control measures to break the chain oftransmission. The States/UT has been advised for regular critical review of theemerging situation with concerned District officials to ensure that gains madeso far in COVID management are not lost.
