Google recently announced via a blog postthat a high-security threat has been confirmed on Chrome, which affects Windowsusers, macOS and Linux. The technology company stated that Chrome witnessed its11th ‘zero day’ exploit of the year pertaining to CVE-2021-37973.
According to Forbes, a zero-dayclassification means hackers have been able to exploit the flaw before Googlecould release a fix, which makes it significantly more dangerous than mostsecurity flaws. Google confirmed this saying it “is aware that an exploit forCVE-2021-37973 exists in the wild”.
This is a zero-day exploit and what it refersto is the fact that cybercriminals were able to exploit it before Google foundout and before it could release a patch for Google Chrome to stop them. Also,considering that there are as many as 2.65 bn Google Chrome users, the scale ofthe problem can well be imagined.
Over 2 billion Google Chrome users have beenwarned to update their browsers after a critical hack was discovered. Thisattack puts almost all Google Chrome users under threat of being hacked.
Google revealed threat ranking on its blog,"High CVE-2021-37973: Use after free in Portals. Reported by ClementLecigne from Google TAG, with technical assistance from Sergei Glazunov andMark Brand from Google Project Zero on 2021-09-21."
It also added a feel-good part, "Wewould also like to thank all security researchers that worked with us duringthe development cycle to prevent security bugs from ever reaching the stablechannel."
All users need to upgrade to Google Chrome. Thesooner they do so, the better.
