Former Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh who has now formed his own party - Punjab Lok Congres, slammed Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and PPCC head Navjot Singh Sidhu on Saturdayover border security in the state. Former Chief Minister’s witty remark came as BSF shot down a Pakistani drone in Punjab’s Ferozepur area.
In his recent tweet, Capt Amarinder asked CM Channi to “stop doing Bhangra all day” and order his cabinet to work for Punjab’s security. He also took a dig at Sidhu overhis earlier remarks in which he called the Pakistani Prime Minister his elder brother.
“Instead of doing Bhangra all day CM Punjab should advice his home minister to get active and come out of denial mode. Also tell your party president (if he listens to you) to askhis elder brother Imran Khan to stop trying to disturb our border state of Punjab!” read the tweet by former CM.
The Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday late night shot down a drone near the India-Pakistan border in Punjab. The Chinese-made drone was "detected and downed" near the Wan borderpost in Ferozepur sector at around 11.10 p.m on December 17.
The drone could carry a weight of roughly 10 kg, according to BSF. However, it was not carrying any payloads such as drugs, weapons or ammunition.
With just months ahead of state assembly elections, Captain Amarinder is constantly seen targeting the Channi government over several issues and questioning Congress’ way of administeringthe state. Amarinder Singh will contest in elections from his own party, Punjab Congress which is in seat-sharing with Bharatiya Janata Party.
The elderly leader has shown confidence in making government next year, on several occasions.
Punjab will hold elections in early 2022.
