Only half a glass ofwater will be served to people in all meetings held by the Chandigarh MunicipalCorporation, the civic body’s water supply and sewer disposal committee decidedon Friday.
This decision isprimarily taken by the officials in order to conserve water and to ensure 24x7water supply for all Chandigarh’s residents.
Friday’s meeting ofthe water supply and sewer disposal committee of the civic body was held underthe chairmanship of Shakti Parkash Devshali. and was attended by Mayor, RaviKant Sharma, special invitee, and other members, including Mahesh Inder Singh,Asha Jaswal, Jagtar Singh, Ajay Dutta, and Rajesh Kalia, among others.
The committee membersdiscussed various issues related to scarcity of water, development and problemsfaced by the citizens pertaining to water supply and the storm water drainagesystem in their meeting. And finally came up with a decision to serve only halfa glass of water in all meetings held by the Chandigarh MunicipalCorporation.
“The memberssuggested that half a glass of water may be served in all the meetings of thecivic body in the future to save water. The committee also discussed the fixedlimit charges for new water connection will be borne by citizens for threeyears only,” a statement issued by the Municipal Corporation said.
The committee askedthe officers concerned to reshuffle the timings of tertiary treated watersupply from afternoon to morning and evening for the convenience of the generalpublic. The committee also raised concerns over rainwater harvesting inChandigarh and its implementation in a phased manner in Chandigarh.
