Patiala, December 23-Former Union Minister of State forForeign Affairs, Mrs. Preneet Kaur who represents parliamentary constituency,Patiala, in Lok Sabha, said here today that all the Congress MPs led by RahulGandhi would meet President of India, tomorrow (Thursday) at Rashtarpati Bhawanto impress upon him for repealing of the anti-farmers’ laws.
She was interacting with the media after attending the antimardas of a young farmer Gurpreet Singh (22), who had passed away a few daysback during a road accident, at Village Sapherra, near Patiala.
Making astrong appeal to PM Narendra Modi, Mrs Kaur said that the former should takethe call of agitating farmers seriously. As they have apprehensions regardingthe new farm laws, the Government of India should come forward to repeal theseanti farmer laws without any condition. She said that as Punjab farmers havemade the country self reliant in production of food grains so in return theUnion Government should accede to their demands of repealing of laws. Termingthe demand of repealing the new farm laws genuine and reasonable, she said whenall the farmers were vying for the same in spine chilling cold waves then theUnion Government should not behaved as adamantly. In fact, we should respectthe ‘Annadata’ (food growers) she added.
MP Patialawho was here to express solidarity with families of deceased farmers who havelost their lives during a road accident in Haryana, few days back when theywere on their way back to home (Village Sapherra) on tractor-trolley. In thisaccident, two farmers, one Labh Singh (68) and another Gurpreet Singh (22) werekilled while five others, Kulwant Singh, Hardev Singh, Sarpanch Narinder Singh,Harwinder Singh and Gurmail Singh got injured. She also visited the family ofdeceased farmer Labh Singh besides enquiring well being of the injured farmersat the residence of Kulwant Singh.
Member ofParliament, Mrs. Preneet Kaur said that as a mark of respect and solidaritywith the families of the deceased farmers, Punjab Chief Minister, CaptainAmarinder Singh has already sanctioned an ex-gratia grant of Rs 5 lakh eachbesides 50,000 to injured farmers.
