CP Jalandhar orders strict enforcement of Covid-19 protocol in the city

Orders stern drive against persons not wearing masks and violating social distancing norms as prescribed by government. Also directs to expedite the process of freezing of properties belonging to drug smugglers

In the wake of the fresh spike in Covid-19cases and the new directions of state government on social gatherings, theCommissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar today directed all the officialsto strictly enforce the Covid-19 protocol in the district.

Presiding over a meeting with all GOs and SHOs,the Commissioner of Police directed them to launch a vigorous drive to checkthe violation of Covid-19 protocols including wearing masks and maintainingsocial distancing. He briefed all the officials about the latest guidelinesissued by the state government with respect to indoor and outdoor gatherings.Mr Bhullar mentioned that as per the fresh guidelines only 100 persons areallowed in an indoor gathering and a cap of 200 persons has been fixed for anykinds of outdoor gatherings.

The Commissioner of Police said that theseorders would come into effect from March, 1, 2021 till further orders addingthat all the officials should ensure meticulous enforcement of the government’sorder in true letter and spirit. He further asked officials to ensuremaintenance of social distancing norms, regulation of crowds at public places,wearing of face masks and others so that this deadly virus could be kept atbay.

Meanwhile, dwelling on another agenda theCommissioner of Police directed all the field officers to further intensifytheir crackdown on drug smugglers and bootleggers by implementing zerotolerance policy against the perpetrators of these crimes. While reviewing theanti-drug drive, he instructed all the officials to ensure that the supplylines of drugs in the respective areas is completely snapped. Reiterating thefirm commitment of the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh led stategovernment to wipe out the drug menace from the state, Mr Bhullar asked theofficers to expedite the process of freezing of the properties of the drugsmugglers booked under the NDPS Act.

The Commissioner of Police categorically saidthat the field officers at various levels will be held accountable for anyactivity of drug smuggling in their respective areas. He ordered all fieldofficers to carry out systematic and detailed investigations into drug cases sothat this menace can be completely wiped out. He further asked them to identifyhabitual offenders of drug cases and to initiate proceedings of preventiveaction as per laws against them to make Jalandhar a drug-free city.

Prominent among others present on the occasionincluded DCPs Gurmeet Singh, Jagmohan Singh and Arun Saini, ADCP HS Banipalbesides all the other officers.
