DC Jalandhar Ghanshyam Thori Directs Health Department to Set up Special Camps for UDID Cards

Appeals Specially-abled Persons to Enroll Themselves for Card and Avail Benefit of Various Schemes; Says Card Could Be Applied at Sewa Kendras or Online Personally

Jalandhar, January 12 - Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thorion Tuesday directed the health department to organize special camps in thedistrict to speed up the enrolment of specially-abled persons for the UniqueDisability Identity Card (UDID). 

Deputy Commissioner told the department to set up one campin each Community-Primary Health Centre of the district and create awarenessamong the general public about camps in advance through MunicipalCouncillors/Sarpanchs/Asha workers so that the specially-abled persons can takemaximum benefit of the schemes. 

He asked them to ensure enrolment of 500 specially-abledpersons daily though the camps and he would personally review the progress ofthe enrolment. 

He appealed to all specially-abled persons to bring theirAadhaar Card, Voter Card or any proof of age, passport size photograph andothers for UDID in the camps. 

The Deputy Commissioner said that UDID cards can also beapplied at Sewa Kendras and online personally. 

He said that a panel of orthopaedics, ENT and EYEspecialists, psychiatrist, paediatrics, and others physically examine on everyTuesday and Thursday before issuing disability certificate. 

He said that the cards are being issued not only toencourage transparency, efficiency, and ease of delivering the governmentbenefits to the person with disabilities but to also ensure uniformity. 

The Deputy Commissioner said that cards would also help instreamlining the tracking of the physical and financial progress ofbeneficiaries at all levels of the hierarchy of implementation – from villagelevel, block level, District level, State level, and National level. 

Nodal Officer UDID scheme Dr. Anu said UDID would be havinga Quick Response (QR) code that helps in ascertaining the credentials ofspecially-abled persons. 

She added that the card would also help in ensuring freetravel to visually challenge government buses besides providing 50% concessionto other specially-abled persons in them.
