Delhi Live Updates: Police fires tear-gas shells on farmers near Akshardham, Transport Nagar in Delhi

DelhiPolice fired tear-gas shells on a section of farmers near Akshardham temple andSanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar today as they entered Delhi ahead of theirplanned ‘Tractor Parade'.

Theagitating farmers, comprising mostly youths, earlier broke through thebarricades set up by police near Ghazipur entry point on the Delhi-UttarPradesh border and Singhu and Tikri points on Delhi-Haryana border.

Assoon as they reached near the Akshardham intersection on the Delhi-MeerutHighway, police fired tear-gas shells. The farmers then indulged instone-pelting to break windscreens of passing trucks as well as DTC busesparked on the road to stop them from moving inside Delhi.

Asimilar situation prevailed at Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar as police firedtear- gas shells on farmers who moved in from the Singhu border.

TheDelhi Police had permitted the farmers to enter Delhi once the officialRepublic Day parade was over.

Thousandsof farmers from Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh have been protestingon the Delhi borders since November 26 last year to demand the repeal of threenew central farm laws and ensure legal guarantee for minimum support price fortheir crops. Elevenrounds of talks between the farmers and the central government have remainedfruitless.
