"Did the right thing": Anil Kumble backs Wasim Jaffer for stepping down as Uttarakhand Coach

After resigning from the post, Jaffer also shared his official statement on Twitter over all the allegations

Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer was accused of religious discrimination by officials of the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU). At the same time, the CAU alleged that during training in bio-bubble, the clerics (maulvis) were also invited to offer prayers in the camp. Jaffer has denied these allegations.

Jaffer resigned as the coach of the Uttarakhand team on Tuesday. He was made coach for one year by paying a fee of Rs 55 lakh. Last month, the Uttarakhand team lost 4 out of 5 matches in the domestic tournament Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament.

After resigning from the post, Jaffer also shared his official statement on Twitter over all the allegations. Jaffer wrote, "1. I recommended Jay Bista for captaincy not Iqbal but CAU officials favoured Iqbal. 2. I did not invite Maulavis 3. I resigned cos bias of selectors-secretary for non-deserving players 4. Team used to say a chant of Sikh community, I suggested we can say "Go Uttarakhand"

Following this, India's former captain Anil Kumble took to Twitter and came in support of Jaffer. Kumble on Twitter wrote, "With you Wasim. Did the right thing. Unfortunately it’s the players who’ll miss your mentor ship."

Not only Kumble, India's former all-rounder Irfan Pathan also expressed his support to Jaffer and wrote, "Unfortunate that you have to explain this."
