The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has once again extended the deadline for Universal Account Number (UAN) activation and Aadhaar seeding. The new deadline has been pushed to June 30, 2025, allowing employees additional time to complete the process and avail themselves of several benefits right from the comfort of their homes.
Following 'X' post, the EPFO threw light on the UAN activation deadline extension:
The PF subscriber must use the Aadhaar-linked mobile number for initiating the UAN activation process. He must have registered this phone number with the EPFO beforehand.
If a PF subscriber does not activate their UAN (Universal Account Number) before June 30, they will lose access to several important benefits, including
To continue enjoying these services, it is essential to activate the UAN promptly.
Experts believe that there are several consequences of missing the extended deadline, which subsume the following:
In the absence of linking Aadhar with UAN, an employee risks losing access to the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme benefits. This scheme, introduced in Budget 2024-25, provides substantial financial support to promote formal employment.
However, these benefits are distributed through Direct Benefit Transfer, which mandates Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. Without this linking, employees will lose access to this benefit.
Also, non-compliant employees would find themselves locked out of essential EPF services such as filing online claims for withdrawals, advances, or transfers.
This is particularly problematic during emergencies when they would need quick access to their provident fund money.
The digital infrastructure that EPFO has built - including online passbook access and real-time claim tracking - becomes inaccessible.
