Facebook has removed 687 pages related to the individuals connected to the Congress IT cell for ‘inauthentic behavior’ and for promoting spam posts. These accounts have been stated as a part of a coordinated network trying to promote an agenda.
Apart from these Congress’ pages, 103 pages have also been removed by Facebook who stated these to be working in a similar manner operating from Pakistan.
Nathaniel Gleicher, Head of Cyber Security policy while addressing a media conference said that Facebook has removed 687 Facebook pages and accounts involved in ‘coordinated inauthentic behavior’ being promoted by the Indian National Congress.
“When we remove one of these networks, the reason we remove them is because of their coordinated inauthentic behavior, that they are using network of fake accounts to conceal their identity....to mislead who behind them. That the basic reason for removal,” he said.
“We are constantly working to detect and stop coordinated inauthentic behavior because we don’t want our services to be used to manipulate people. We’re taking down these pages and accounts based on their behavior, not the content they posted,” he added.
While Congress has not said anything on the reported issue, BJP has attacked Congress over the ‘inauthentic behavior’ on social media.
