The officials of Twitter and Facebook received summons bythe Parliamentary Committee on Information Technology to question them on themisuse of online and social networking platforms on January 21.
The schedule of the meeting was uploaded on the websiteof Lok-Sabha. It says, "Evidence of representatives of Ministry ofElectronics and Information Technology and to hear the views of therepresentatives of Facebook and Twitter on the subject safeguarding citizens'rights and prevention of misuse of social/online news media platforms includingspecial emphasis on women security in the digital space."
Over the issue of political bias on Facebook, thecommittee had earlier summoned the head of Facebook, Ajit Mohan in India.
The Wall Street Journal reported a bias of Facebooktowards the leaders of BJP. The report was published in Wall Street Journal, "Facebook’s Hate-Speech Rules Collide WithIndian Politics."
Many politicians had allegedthe Facebook is biased towards the ruling party. It was also claimed that AnkhiDas who was the India policy head of Facebook opposed the idea of banningleaders spewing hate speech. Das had quit Facebook after the controversy.
