Farmers claim police grants permission for Republic day 'Tractor Parade' to mark protest

After an agreement between both the parties, the farmers are reported to enter Delhi from all the three borders but they will not venture into central Delhi.

Farmers claim that the police have granted them permission to carry out the protest and it has been termed as a breakthrough amid heightened tensions. Granting permission to the agitating farmers on theborders of Delhi to carry out tractor march on Republic day that falls onJanuary 26, the officials have asked for some modifications includingcommencing the parade only after the official Republic day parade.

After an alleged agreement between both the parties, the farmersare reported to enter Delhi from all the three borders but they will notventure into central Delhi.

Kulwant Singh Sandhu, general secretary of the PunjabJamhoori Kisan Sabha said many farmers are coming from Punjab and Haryana toparticipate in the tractor parade on January 26.

Sandhu was quoted by The Indian Express as, "Around2.5-3 lakh tractors will take to the roads near the protest sites. The paradewill be absolutely peaceful from our end."

The permission was allegedly granted after the series of talksfailed to yield any results between the farmers and police to call off theirtractor march.
