High Court granted relief to former Congress minister Gilzian in the forest scam

The Vigilance Bureau has arrested minister's nephew Daljit in the case

The Punjab and Haryana High Court hasissued an order granting interim relief from arrest to former Congress minister Sangat Singh Gilzian in the matter associated with forest affairs.The court has put the stay on his arrest till July 25th. The courthas ordered the state government to file a status report on the matter. Apartfrom this, the court has also asked about the progress of the State’s Vigilance Bureau in the case. The interim relief to Gilzian is a bigblow to the Punjab government, which is constantly putting efforts to establishits image as the defender of the state’s welfare against corruption.

Case by the Vigilance Department:

The state’s Vigilance Bureau hasregistered a case in Mohali against the scam in the forest affairs during the Congressgovernment. Former Congress minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot has beenarrested in the matter and Gilzian is next in line in the same case. As soon asthe case was registered Gilzian went underground and filed the petition seekingrelief in the matter from the High Court.

Daljit Gilzian, Minister’s nephew underVigilance’s Custody:

In the same case nephew of formerminister Gilzian was arrested by the Vigilance Bureau from Chandigarh.Daljit is under Vigilance's remand. The Vigilance has claimed thatDaljit himself looked into the entire proceedings of his Uncle’s works. Fromthe transfer of officers to the cutting up of trees from the government’s orderin the state, many of such matters had Daljit’s direct involvement.
