How the ‘Cloud-Kitchen’ birthday cake caused the death 10-year-old Patiala girl? Police say…

10-year-old, Manvi died after eating a 'stale' cake from the Patiala Kanha bakery, which later turned out to be a 'cloud-kitchen'

Police investigation into the death of 10-year-old girl, Manvi in Patiala due to eating cake on her own birthday has brought forth a new revelation. It has been revealed that the accused “bakery” did not sell fresh cakes to its customers. The “bakery” reportedly used to half-bake 30 to 40 cakes well in advance and keep them in the fridge at inadequate temperatures.

When they received online orders in the morning, they reportedly used to decorate those “stale” cakes and send them to people. The investigation also revealed negligence on the part of the accused as it was also not checked whether the cake is in good or bad condition or whether it was affected during storage.

This was revealed following interrogation of the three accused arrested so far, Manager Ranjit Singh, Pawan Kumar and Vijay Kumar. The accused say that apart from this they do not have any information.

It is important to note that after Manvi's death, her family filed a complaint against Kanha Bakery, which sent the cake. After initial investigation, the police said that there is no such shop from where the order is said to have come. The organization was instead a ‘cloud-kitchen’.

What is Manvi’s death case?

The 10-year-old girl, Manvi’s family had ordered a birthday cake online from food delivery website Zomato on March 24. After consumption, the kids started vomiting the cake following which the family went to sleep. However, the elder daughter was unresponsive and cold to the touch in the morning. The girl was declared dead after being rushed to the hospital.

A copy of the reciept of the cake which was ordered by the deceased girl’s mother, Kajal showed that there is no shop named “Cake Kanha” at the registered address in Patiala; but is instead a "cloud kitchen". Additionally, another original receipt invoice showed billing from Amritsar, not Patiala.

What is a Cloud Kitchen?
