Lovlina will face top seed Busenaz Surmenellii of Turkey in the semi-final.

LovlinaBorgohain is not going to settle for anything less than a Gold medal at theTokyo Olympics. By reaching the semi-final of the Women's Welterweightcategory, Lovlina is assured of at least a bronze medal. The youngboxer, a two-time World and Asian championships bronze-medallist, was in themood for some big punches as she outclassed former world champion and 3rd seedNien-Chin Chen of Taiwan on Friday.

After herquarter-final win from Tokyo, Lovlina Borgohain said she will definitely lookto come up with a better showing in the semi-final.

Lovlinastated, "Feeling very good after winning the quarter-final, next up is mysemi-final. I will definitely try to do better than this in the semi-final, Iwant to try and win the gold medal for India." 

“I havebeen working hard for eight years, so I thought I will have to show that hardwork. I just wanted to be aggressive from the start,” said Borgohain, atwo-time world championships medallist.

“I thoughtI will play it easy, whatever the situation I will handle. I have lost fourtimes. I used to think too much about her. Today I went with the strategy ofattacking and not staying on the back foot,” she said.

“I canplay freely now. I did not take any stress. If you take stress, it is not good.I just wanted to prove myself. I wanted to prove that I can beat her.”

“Pressureis always there. But, this time, I tried not to play under pressure as itimpacts the performance. I knew the whole country was praying for me. I just hadto give my best performance,” said Boxer Lovlina Borgohain.

India rejoiced afterLovlina Borgohain on Friday assured the country of its second medal at theTokyo Olympics with Sports Minister Anurag Thakur and shooting ace AbhinavBindra joining others in sending the young boxer congratulatory messages.

“Lovlina has enteredthe Semi-Finals ! Well done @LovlinaBorgohai , what an amazing news for Indiato wake up to today! We’ve been glued to the tv screen watching you inaction!," Thakur wrote on his Twitter handle.

was one of the first to congratulate the boxer, who comesfrom the northeastern state’s Golaghat district. “This is a BIG punch. You continueto make us proud LovlinaBorgohain and keep India’s flag high & shining atTokyoOlympics2020. Well done," Sarma said.

Former sportsminister Kiren Rijiju too sent her his congratulations. “India is confirmed of2nd Olympics medal. What a lovely Boxing from Lovlina. LovlinaBorgohai hasreached semi-finals and looking for Gold medal in Tokyo2020 Olympics!"Rijiju wrote.

Olympic bronzemedallist Yogeshwar Dutt said, “What a day!! One more Medal confirmation win byIndian Women proud." Former world champion shooter Heena Sidhu said,“medal confirmed for Lovlina!!!! Great show!!! Amazing amazing amazing."
