India logs 3.49lakh Covid cases in last 24hrs amid continued oxygen shortage

The active cases in India stood at 26,82,751 on Sunday, while the total Covid-19 cases registered so far reached 1,69,60,172.

Amid continued oxygen shortage and lack of ICU beds inmany states, India today once again records more than 3 lakh Covid cases fourthday in a row.

The country logged a total of 3,49,691 Covid cases and2,767 deaths in the last 24 hours, a new single-day high since the pandemicbegan last year, according to the health ministry's data released on Sunday.

The active cases in India stood at 26,82,751 on Sunday,while the total Covid-19 cases registered so far reached 1,69,60,172.

A total of 2,17,113 Covid infected people were recoveredin the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery so far to 1,40,85,110.

India registered over 2,000 deaths for the fifthconsecutive day with the highest spike in single-day deaths. On Saturday, Indiareported 2,624 deaths, on Friday 2,263, while on Thursday 2,104 deaths and2,023 deaths were reported on Wednesday.

A total of 1,92,311 have lost their lives due to Covid-19in India since last year. The Health Ministry said that a total of 17,19,588samples were tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 27,79,18,810samples have been tested in the country.

According to the government data, a total of 25,36,612people were also vaccinated in the same period, taking the total inoculationcount to 14,09,16,417. Since April 15, India has continued to report over 2lakh new Covid-19 cases on a daily basis.

The top five states which have contributed to India'stotal daily tally include Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala andDelhi.

Meanwhile, over 40 patients have died in Delhi in twohospitals in last two days due to shortage of oxygen, while six patients diedin Amritsar. India continues to fight covid19 crisis and situation is turningfrom bad to worse.
