Indian satellite GSAT-31 launched from French Guyana, to replace INSAT-4 CR

GSAT-31 is a communication satellite which is set to replace the INSAT-4 CR which will stop working in the near future

Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has successfully launched the GSAT-31 satellite from European Space Centre of French Guyana on Wednesday. 

GSAT-31 is a communication satellite which is set to replace INSAT-4 CR. 

After 42 minutes of satellite launch, the satellite was installed in the geo-transfer orbit.

The launch was made from Arian-5 rocket of the Arianespace.

The satellite weighs 2535 kgs and is expected to have a life of 15 years.

S Pandian, director of Satish Dhawan Space Centre congratulated the ISRO on the successful launch and also informed that GSAT-30 will be launched later this year in June-July.

The GSAT-31 will be used for VSAT Networks, TV Uplinks, Digital Satellite News Gathering, DTH TV Service and many other programs.
