Puducherry on Monday became the second Congressgovernment to fall within 365 days after the Kamal Nath-led Madhya Pradeshgovernment fell in March last year.
It is the third government if coalition government ofKarnataka is counted which had support of the Congress. The Congress has shrunkto just three states - Punjab, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. In Jharkhand andMaharashtra it is in coalition.
The Congress leaders in New Delhi assert that the fall ofPuducherry government will enhance their electoral prospects as it will negatethe anti-incumbency of the Narayansamy government and make Congress stronger inthe state.
Puducherry's outgoing Chief Minister V. Narayanasamyresigned earlier in the day after his Congress-led government collapsed justbefore facing the floor test in the Assembly. Addressing the Assembly ahead offloor test, Narayansamy alleged that the BJP is derailing India's democraticsystem.
"What is happening in Puducherry now is politicalprostitution. But the truth will prevail," he said. He alleged that formerLieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi and the Centre colluded with the opposition todestabilize his government.
After his hard-hitting speech, slamming the Centre forcolluding with the opposition to topple his government and arguments overvoting rights of three nominated MLAs, the chief minister and his MLAs walkedout of the House.
The Congress leader and former General Secretary B.K.Hariprasad said: "BJP is pulling down governments where they don't getmajority through elections."
Last year at the same time Congress former leaderJyotiraditya Scindia led a revolt which resulted in the fall of Congressgovernment in the Madhya Pradesh where the Congress had fought tooth and nailto wrest to power after fifteen years.
The similarity between the Puducherry, Madhya Pradesh andKarnataka is that the Congress MLAs revolted against the party and due to theirresignation the government collapsed.
Ten MLAs in Goa crossed to BJP and about 20 MLAs left theparty in West Bengal to join the Trinamool in last five years.
The danger in Rajasthan is still looming after the revoltof Sachin Pilot which Congress managed to resolve timely but the BJP has itseyes on the internal contradiction of the Congress and may things playing outbetween the Ashok Gehlot and Pilot camps.
In Maharashtra, a problem has arisen in the Maha VikasAghadi government after resignation of Nana Patole as speaker as coalitionpartners alleged that Congress did not consult the allies, sources said.
In Jharkhand, leaders say the government is safe and thecoalition government is running smoothly without any problems.
