India has been going through really tough times. The health infrastructures has badly collapsed, covid dead bodies are beingfound either floating in rivers or buried in sand near rivers. Besides, thereis oxygen, beds, medicines and even vaccine shortage in the country.

Looking at the situation, the centre governmentmust be held accountable for poor preparedness to handle the spread of the secondwave of the virus, but what about us?

What we as citizens have done to tackle thesecond wave. The study reveals that we even failed to wear a mask which sinceday one is being termed as the biggest weapon to fight covid. Isn’t we areequally responsible for the covid19 crisis as we failed to follow the basicguidelines.

Just think for a moment! Have you ever askedyour neighbour or friend whom you spotted not wearing a mask that why they aren’twearing it or for what reasons? Forget about this, have you ever corrected anyonewearing a mask below nose. Then how are we supposed to raise fingers ongovernment or anyone else?

The Union Health Ministry in its survey revealedthat only 50 percent of people wear masks despite the critical role it plays inthe battle against the second wave of coronavirus. It also mentioned that 64percent of the people, who do wear masks, do not cover the nose.

As per the survey, 90 percent of the people areaware of the importance of a mask, but still only half of them wear one. Thestatement from Health Ministry said that these figures reflect “laxity” infollowing crucial Covid norms like wearing masks and avoiding crowding.

The statement released by Health Ministry said,“One infected person could spread Covid19 to an average of 406 otherindividuals in 30-days. Without restrictions, the number of days can be reducedto 15. In the meeting, it was highlighted that the concept of the second wavereflected more laxity among everyone regarding Covid appropriate behavior andCovid containment and management strategy at the ground level.”

Health experts say that amid the vaccine shortage, the masks and socialdistancing is the only way out to save ourselves from the virus. Therefore, it isnecessary we abide by covid appropriate behaviour and follow covid norms atleast for our own sake.
