Jaipal Bhullar’s family refuses cremation, demands probe into encounter

They alleged that the encounter was ‘staged’ and demanded a thorough investigation in the matter.

Familymembers of Punjab’s most wanted gangster Jaipal Bhullar, who was killed by WestBengal Police in an encounter on June 9 in Kolkata, refused to cremate the bodyciting they have found multiple fractures and injuries all over his body. Theyalleged that the encounter was ‘staged’ and demanded a thorough investigationin the matter.

Thefamily also said they will first send the body for postmortem as they havefound multiple fractures over his body. They submitted a letter to the DCFerozpur demanding a second postmortem in Ferozpur itself.

Jaipal’sfamily also alleged that they were harassed by Punjab Police and made to waitfor long hours and it was only after media’s pressure that the body was handedover to them.

Thebody of Jaipal Bhullar arrived at his hometown in Ferozpur on Saturday evening.The cremation was scheduled to take place this afternoon, however, when thefamily opened the closet to take out the corpse for last rites; they foundmultiple injuries all over his body.

BhupinderSingh, retired Assistant-Sub-Inspector from Punjab police, father of Jaipal,while talking to media persons, said that the family has decided not to crematethe body until we get another postmortem done. “There are multiple injuries allover his body which reveals that the entire encounter was staged”, he said.

Hesaid after seeing the Jaipal’s corpse it is clear that he was first torturedand later shot dead. “I don’t blame the entire Punjab Police for this but thereare some officials who for the sake of promotions and fame stage suchencounters”, he added.

Meanwhile, the Ferozpur Administration and Punjab Police have denied permission over re-conducting postmortem. Heavy police force have been deployed outside Jaipal Bhullar's house in Ferozpur and the entire area has been sealed. 

Besides,family of Jassi Kharar has also raised questions over the encounter anddemanded an inquiry into it. Both Jaipal Bhullar and Jassi Kharar were killedin a joint operation by Punjab Police, West Bengal Police and central securityagencies on June 9. The encounter took place at Shahpurji Enclave in Kolkata.
