Jalandhar Becomes First in Punjab to Have 100-percent Piped Water Supply in All Anganwari Centres- ADC Vishesh Sarangal

All 1654 Anganwari Centres in Jalandhar Have Now Tap Water Connections and Access to Potable Water- Sarangal

District Public Relations Officer, Jalandhar, December 24-In a major achievement on Thursday, the Jalandhar district has become first inthe state which has ensured a 100-percent piped water supply connection to allAnganwari centers of the district.

Disclosing more information, the Additional DeputyCommissioner (Development) Vishesh Sarangal, who led a team of variousdepartments including the Department of Social Security, Women and ChildDevelopment, Department of Water Supply and Sanitation, and Rural Developmentand Panchayat Department, said that this 100-day special campaign on providingsafe and adequate water to all Anganwari centers was initiated on October 2,2020, under Jal Jiwan Mission (JJM) program.

He said that the campaign was aimed at ensuring piped watersupply to all centers for protecting the health of the children and others withaccess to potable water in the centers.

He informed when the campaign was launched, a fieldinspection was conducted and he got a report that 184 Anganwari centers inJalandhar were without tap water connection.

He stated that following the directions of the stategovernment, the work was immediately kick-started on all 184 sites, andprogress was constantly reviewed with the departments’ heads. He said that theofficials ensured regular inspections of the work on the field which helped inachieving the target much before the deadline of 100-days.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) said thatensuring safe water to children was the top-most priority of the government asthe kids are the most vulnerable to water-borne diseases.

He said now with the work has been completed in 184Anganwari centers; all 1654 Anganwari centers of Jalandhar have tap waterconnections.

Sarangal lauded the team of officials for their concertedefforts during the uninterrupted completion of this job which would providesafe and clean drinking water to children and others. 

Further, this would also ensure safe handling and storage ofdrinking water, handwashing with soap, personal, and community hygiene, headded.
