Kapurthala Police bust inter-state drug racket, two drug peddlers arrested

SSP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said the police have been keeping a close vigil on the activities of narcotics smugglers active in Kapurthala.

In a major crackdown against the drug menace, theKapurthala police on Sunday busted an inter-state racket of smuggling of poppyhusk and arrested two peddlers after seizing 270 kg of poppy husk from a truck.

The arrested accused have been identified as GurcharanSingh son of Sukdev Singh resident of Chandan Nagar, Kartarpur and SandeepSingh son of Bhajan Singh resident of Bhagiwal,Mehatpur.

Divulging more details, Senior Superintendent of Police(SSP) Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said the police have been keeping a close vigilon the activities of narcotics smugglers active in Kapurthala.

He said checking teams were formed under the supervisionof SP (Investigation) Kapurthala, a team led by DSP Sultanpur Lodhi SarwanSingh Bal constituting Incharge CIA staff Kapurthala Surjeet Singh and SHOSultanpur Lodhi SI Harjit Singh .

SSP said that during patrolling, the police party was onits way to village Rampur Jagir from Sultanpur Lodhi police station inconnection with the search of the anti-social elements.  He said that about 2-km from Sherpur Donatowards the road leading to Main GT Road Kala Sanghia, cops found six personsfilling sacks in a truck bearing number PB-10-CY-9581. He added that actingswiftly, the police party rushed towards them to check the truck and spottingthe cops, four of them got into the Innova car and fled away but the policesuccessfully nabbed remaining two including Gurbachan and Sandeep and recovered270 kg poppy husk from the truck.

SSP said that all accused have been booked under varioussections of NDPS Act in a case registered at police station Sultanpur Lodhi .Besides, the police parties have been conducting raids to nab the remainingaccused.

He added that the accused would be produced in the localcourts and would be taken on remand for further interrogation and to arrest theremaining members of the racket.
