The first trailer for the upcoming film Kraven the Hunter released online, starring Aaron-Taylor Johnson in the titular role in his third comic-book character after Kick-Ass and Quicksilver. It is scheduled to be the 4th installment in the Sony's Spider-Man after Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Morbius. It will be the first feature film appearance of the character after plans of including him in the Amazing Spider-Man series were there before the series was scrapped. The character since then made only blink-and-miss cameos in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: No Way Home before headlining his own film. The film will be released on 6th October 2023. He will also appear in the highly-anticipated PS5 video game Marvel's Spider-Man 2 releasing on 20th of the same month. It will also be the first R-rated film of the universe consisting of Spider-Man villains.
Kraven the Hunter is one of the oldest and most well-known Spider-Man villains, making his first comic book appearance in August 1964. Kraven is typically portrayed as a famous big-game hunter whose goal in life is to defeat Spider-Man to prove himself as the world's greatest hunter. Though he is often brash in his own abilities, which he likes to boast about, he possesses a great sense of honor, and treats his enemies as equals until proven otherwise. He is also one of the founding members of the Sinister Six.
By regularly ingesting the potion made from various unknown jungle herbs, Kraven gives himself superhuman physical abilities, making him a serious threat to Spider-Man, although these powers are not as developed as those owned by Spider-Man. Kraven's body is also more resistant to certain forms of injury than the body of a normal human. The effects of the potion have dramatically slowed Kraven's aging process to the point that he has aged less over several decades. Despite being over 70 years of age, he has the physical appearance of a 30-year-old man. The potion enhances Kraven's sensory functions like sight, hearing and smell to superhuman levels, adding to his already impressive tracking skills. Even without the superhuman powers granted by the potion, Kraven is an Olympic-level athlete and a gifted tactician, hunter and hand-to-hand combatant. He also has immense knowledge of pressure points, both in the anatomy of humans and in many animals.
The trailer of the film promises a good look at the antihero's origins and his gruesome pursuit to bring an end the atrocities his father brings to the world. The film is directed by JC Chandora and written by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk
