Lockdown restrictions to remain enforced till May 15 in Maharashtra

Notably, CM Uddhav Thackeray decided to impose Covid restrictions on April 14 for a week after the state witnessed an unprecedented surge in the infection cases

The Maharashtra government on Thursday has decided to keep the lockdownrestrictions enforced till May 15 after the state recorded 66,519 new Covid-19cases in a single day. Also, 771 people succumbed to the infection in the last 24hours.

The State Executive Committee in the latest order reiterated that it issignificant to continue emergency orders to prevent and curb the spread of thecoronavirus.

The govt in the exercise of the powers conferred under Section 2of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, read with all other enabling provisions ofThe Disaster Management Act, 2005, finds it is necessary to continue theenforcement of the current restrictions throughout the State beyond 7 am on May1, 2021 till 7 am on May 15, 2021, to break the chain of transmissioneffectively,” the order said.

Notably, CM Uddhav Thackeray decided to imposeCovid restrictions on April 14 for a week after the state witnessed anunprecedented surge in the infection cases. However, these restrictions werelater extended for some more time barring more activities under section 144of the CrPC.

Notably, the local train servicesand public transport in Maharashtra are on ply for only essential servicesstaff of the government. The essential services in the state are also allowedamid the restrictions.

The grocery stores, vegetableshops and milk outlets are only allowed to function between 7 am and 11 am.
