Lucknow doctor tests positive after completing vaccine course

ALucknow-based doctor has become the first person in Uttar Pradesh to testpositive for Covid even after completing the two-dose course of the vaccine.

However,he developed a severe cough along with mild fever on March 18 and got himselftested on March 20.

Thereport on Sunday revealed he was Covid19 positive and has isolated himself athome because he has only mild symptoms and regularly monitors his bloodpressure and blood oxygen levels.

SubhashChandra Sundariyal, director, Civil hospital, said that, "We are also intouch with him and in case, symptoms aggravate, he will be hospitalized. Theentire hospital has been sanitized and services are continuing as usual."

Meanwhile,director general of medical health, D.S. Negi confirmed that Nitin Mishra'scase is the first recorded instance where a person has been found to havecontracted Covid-19 and turned symptomatic after completion of the two-dosecourse of Covaxin.

Covaxinhas been indigenously developed in India by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech incollaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Negisaid "Data shows that the efficacy of Covaxin is about 80-90 per cent. Thevaccine does not act as a shield against infection, but protects a person fromfalling critically ill, hence people should go for the vaccine, if they aremedically eligible, without any hesitation."

ProfAmita Jain, head of the microbiology department in King George's MedicalUniversity, said "It takes a few weeks, even after completion of thevaccination course, to build full immunity against the disease. During thisperiod, a person may get infected and develop symptoms."
