The districtadministration today set its wheels in motion for providing succour to 4.54lakh Smart Card holder families in the district by distributing free wheat fortwo months in a single go under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojna.
On the directionsof the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the districtadministration led Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma started thismammoth drive to give relief to approximately 17 lakh eligible beneficiaries inthe prevailing scenario due to the spread of Covid 19.
Divulging thedetails, Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration wasduty-bound for fair distribution of wheat to eligible beneficiaries underPradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY). He said that in wake of theoutbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic, the government has decided to give 5kilograms of wheat per beneficiary per month for two months.
He said thatFood, Civil, and Supplies Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu were committed toensuring that no person suffers on account of the non-availability of foodgrains.
He said thatregular monitoring of the entire process would be done so that properdistribution of wheat takes place. He said that proper weight by depot holdershas to be ensured with zero tolerance towards any malpractice.
District Food andSupplies Controller Sukhwinder Singh Gill started this mammoth drive to benefitthe needy strata of the society. The teams of food supply teams have beenformed by the administration to complete this gigantic exercise seamlessly andtransparently, he added.
