Facebook-owned WhatsApp has been in limelight in past fewmonths for its new privacy policy after reports emerged that it would breachthe user’s data.
Refuting all the claims again, WhatsApp has now announcedthat May 15 is no longer a deadline for the users to accept the terms andconditions of the new privacy policy. Also, it will not lead to the deletion ofthe users' accounts.
Earlier, the company had to face severe criticism as theusers were concerned and in fear that their data is being shared with theparent company Facebook.
Clearing the air, WhatsApp has informed the media agencythat no accounts will be deleted on May 15 if the users won’t accept theprivacy policy update.
"No accounts will be deleted on May 15 because ofthis update and no one in India will lose functionality of WhatsApp either. Wewill follow up with reminders to people over the next several weeks," thespokesperson said in an emailed response to a query on Friday.
The spokesperson further added that while a "majority of users who havereceived the new terms of service have accepted them", some people havenot had the chance to do so yet.
However, the company hasnot clarified the reason behind the scrapping of deadline and has also notdisclosed the number of people who have generously accepted the latest terms andconditions so far.
Earlier in January,WhatsApp informed the users about the update in its privacy policy through anin-app notification. Initially, users were given time till February 8 to acceptthe news terms and conditions if they wish to enjoy using the platform. Later,its policy landed in controversy and the company had to push the dates further.
