The 23-year-old, female Indian boxer, Lovlina Borgohainwas born on October 2, 1997, and belongs to the Golaghat district of Assam. Herfather owns a small-scale business and faced a lot of financial struggle in fulfillingthe desires of his daughter. She has two elder twin sisters who competed atkickboxing (national level) but they choose not to pursue further.
Even Lovlina started her career as a kickboxer but then sheswitched it to boxing. She was influenced by Mohammad Ali, and since then shestarted dreaming of making a career in boxing. During the trials at her school,Barpathar Girls High School, which was held by the Sports authorities, and herexceptional talent, was noticed by Coach Padum Boro, who then selected her fortraining. She began her training in 2012, and later on, was trained under, ShivSingh, Chief Women’s Coach.
She was later on selected for participating inCommonwealth Games welterweight boxing category in 2018, where a controversytook place because it was noted that she had not received any officialannouncement about her selection. She came to know about her selection throughthe media, but she lost to the UK welterweight boxer Sandy Ryan in the quarterfinals,and later on, Ryan won gold.
In the same year, she took part in many competitions underthe category of 69 kg; she won bronze in AIBA Women’s World BoxingChampionship, in New Delhi, backed 2 silver medals in Indian Women’s SeniorNational Championships, Rohtak, and Ulaanbaatar Cup, International Boxingchampionship, Mongolia. She also won gold in the 2018, Indian Open Boxing Tournament.
In 2019, she received gold and bronze in 3rdWomen’s National Championship and 70th Strandja elite Women BoxingChampionship respectively. In 2020, she secured a win at the 2020 Asia &Oceania Boxing Qualification Tournament, wherein she became the firstsportswomen from Assam to qualify Olympics, by beating Uzbekistan’s MaftunakhonMelieva in the quarterfinals. She is really determined to win Gold in Olympics.
