Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera: After Ambani end, Adani end controversy, Gujarat government says no question of renaming

There were claims that Motera stadium was to be named as Sardar Patel Stadium.

Motera, world's largest stadium has been renamed asNarendra Modi Stadium. After the change of name, opposition parties and usersof micro blogging sites have taken taken a dig at the government.

The world's largest cricket ground with a capacity of1.32 lakh spectators was inaugurated by President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday.Home Minister Amit Shah was also present during this period. Shah is a LokSabha member from Gandhinagar. This stadium falls under his constituency.

There were claims that Motera stadium was to be named asSardar Patel Stadium but eventually it was renamed on Prime Minister NarendraModi.

Nitin Patel, the Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat saidthe name of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was not associated with Motera stadium. Ina video released on Press Information Bureau, he added, "This stadium isowned by the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) and it was always known as theMotera Stadium. So there is no question of renaming it now. It was NarendraModi, who had first floated the idea to demolish the old stadium and build anew one when he was the GCA president."

The account PIB in Gujarat tweeted, "Deputy ChiefMinister Shri Nitin Patel clarifies that this stadium was never named afterSardar Patel but it was known as a "Motera Stadium" only. it isrenamed as Narendra Modi Stadium. Actually huge new coming up sports complexhas been named as Sardar Patel Sports complex."
