Aday after assuming charge as Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President,Navjot Singh Sidhu faced the protesting farmers’ wrath in Chamkaur Sahib today.
Asper information, Navjot Sidhu went Chamkaur Sahib for a meeting with partyworkers and Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and when he went to the Gurudwarato pay obeisance, he was blocked by anti-farm laws protesters. The farmers'alleged that the ruling party in Punjab was not doing anything for farmers andsimply making false promises to lure voters ahead of the polls.
Theprotesters have also accused Sidhu of doing ‘political drama’ and alleged thathis concern for farmers and Punjab’s welfare was just for the post. Meanwhile, on-ground visuals show a largecrowd of protestors can be seen raising black flags against him.
Onthe other hand, a similar incident also took place in Phagwara where clasheserupted between farmers and police.
Whenasked about the incident, Phagwara police informed Vijay Sampla, Chairman,National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Union Minister of State Som Prakashwere scheduled to hold a meeting at the party office here, however, protestingfarmers launched a protest and clashed with the police.
Reportedly,a large force was deployed to take control of the situation and later thescheduled meeting was also postponed.
Theprotesting farmers since long have been raising their voice against theBJP-led-centre government and its leaders, however, now the Punjab’s rulingparty Congress and its leaders too were facing backlash.
Severalministers of BJP in Punjab and Haryana in the past have been stopped by theprotestors and violent clashes have took place during several events.
